Kali - When One Door Closes....

Today begins a month long blog series about the goddesses I have named some of my jewelry for, beginning with those in the Essential Goddess Collection. I begin with Kali, the goddess of endings and new beginnings.

Kali is a complex goddess who is known as the goddess of destruction and dissolution, a destroyer of evil forces.   She destroys only to re-create. What she destroys is sin, ignorance and decay. She is known for destroying ignorance and for helping those who strive for knowledge of God.  In sanskrit is “kala” means “time,” so time is also an attribute of her name, Kali.

There are many themes surrounding Kali, including change, hope, courage, rebirth, joy, and cleansing. There are also many symbols associated with the goddess, including swords, honey, flowers, and dance.

Thus, Kali is seen as the goddess of endings and new beginnings.  She is the embodiment of Mother Nature who cleanses away the old with natural storms and fires to make the ground fertile for new crops and life. I can’t help but think of the natural seasons we experience here in the northeast with the dying each autumn and resurrection each spring. This is the natural cycle of birth, death and rebirth, all in due time. With that cycle comes sadness for what has been, for what could have been.  Yet, it is followed by hope of the future, of what can be.

Kali is also the ultimate goddess for getting things done.  Contemplating a move? A job change? A relationship change? If you have found yourself on the fence, trying to make a decision yet afraid of what lies ahead, Kali will push you beyond your comfort zone so that you can reach for your best life. Change is part of how things are and using lessons from Kali, taking a risk with form resolve may be in your best interest so that you can experience your best life. Release that which no longer serves you so that you clear a new space for your new life. As I write this, a hymn is playing in my head “Be not afraid for I am with you always”. Be not afraid for with resolve and faith, you can shake off that which doesn’t work for you and find your path to that which will.

I did a lot of research to find a balance of crystals that can help with endings and new beginnings and yet be beautiful to wear. Kali is filled with stones to support your journey such as magical labradorite to remind you to trust your own judgment, amazonite for courage needed for new challenges,  honey calcite for clarity and centeredness so needed to make a move, moss agate known as the stone of new beginnings,  and green aventurine  to remind you to invite new experiences into your life.

 Affirmations:

I release the past and trust that everything is happening for my greatest good.

I let go of my need to please other people first.
